The threat of extinction to newspapers such as the Philadelphia Inquirer, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, San Jose Mercury News, and now the San Francisco Chronicle, has cast a pall over the industry and everybody in it at a time when some of the greatest innovations to news and news delivery are just starting to evolve.
