The Real News on Media Ownership

There's a lot going on at the FCC these days. They're talking about changing media ownership rules, expanding Low-Power FM radio, Sam Zell's purchase of Tribune Company, and many other important issues that will effect the future of the Internet, TV and local media.

The Real News released a great segment about what's going on at the FCC and in Congress. In the segment they discuss FCC Chairman Kevin Martin's proposed media ownership rules that will make Big Media to get even bigger. He's pushing hard to sneak through these dangerous new rules by December 18.

A huge public outcry has forced the Senate to fight back. The Media Ownership Act of 2007 (S. 2332) is expected to be voted on during a Commerce Committee meeting today. This crucial legislation would force the FCC to give the public a real voice in who owns the media and finally address the dismal state of female and minority ownership.

The segment features Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein and Free Press Communications Director Craig Aaron.
