FCC Listens to Media Reform Activists

We won an important victory yesterday when the FCC announced it
would limit groups from applying for more than 10 new full-power, noncommercial
radio station licenses nationwide. The window to obtain these new licenses opens
tomorrow.

Without such a limit, any noncommercial entity could have applied
for thousands of stations, crowding the airwaves with cookie-cutter radio
programming that doesn't reflect the diversity of local communities.

More than 10,000 activists
flooded the FCC with comments on this issue. And in its announcement, the FCC
cited the overwhelming public response as a key factor in its ruling. We sent a loud and clear message that we want more
voices on the air and local issues on the dial.

But there's still to be done! Tell us about local radio in your community. And how can we advocate for better and more diverse local radio.
