Scherazade Daruvalla King

Scherazade Daruvalla King is president of Project: Think Different and Empowerment Records, two organizations that work to "entertain change" by producing socially conscious music, video and online media that provides an entry point into civic dialogue and action. Her work reflects a multidisciplinary orientation that weaves the media arts, civic engagement, media justice and social marketing to raise consciousness and shift the current paradigm to create a new popular culture that is informed and engaged. King's musicians and participants have been seen and heard on MTV and HBO, as well as on television networks ABC, NBC, and CBS and many radio stations. She was the associate producer of If I had a Minute with the President, a film created by middle school students to leverage influence on decision-making that affects them. This film was featured on the floor of the Democratic National Convention and seen on C-SPAN. She is the creator of Youth Urban Update, a show that empowers youth to use the media arts to engage in dialogue and take positive action. A speaker, educator, activist and believer, King is committed to increasing civic participation, raising consciousness, and awakening our power as co-creators of the world.
