Shireen Mitchell
Shireen Mitchell is the founder and executive director of Digital Sisters/Sistas, a nonprofit organization focused on using media and technology to access self-sufficiency tools for women and children. Shireen has 20 years of technology, human services, and nonprofit experience. She has combined social media and ICT with policy, advocacy, and education to support disenfranchised communities. Shireen is president of CTCNet, a national affiliation of initiatives and organizations around the country that collectively commit to strengthen the social, economic, educational, and civic life of their communities through technology. Shireen works to promote equity and access for women as the chair of the Media and Technology Task Force of the National Council of Women's Organizations (NCWO), where she is the vice chair. Addressing issues from Imus to Thomas, she is a member of the Women's Coalition of Dignity and Diversity in the Media. As an author, she has written "Gaining Daily Access to Science and Technology" in the book 50 Ways to Improve Women's Lives and "Access to Technology: Race, Gender, Class Bias." Shireen has written articles including, "What Does Tech Have to Do with Women's Rights," and continues to blog about women, tech, policy, and media issues.
