Jessica Clark
Jessica Clark directs the Future of Public Media Project at American University's Center for Social Media (www.centerforsocialmedia.org). She is currently co-authoring a blog (www.buildtheecho.net) and a book on the evolution and impact of the progressive media sector with Tracy Van Slyke of the Media Consortium, and is also is the editor-at-large for In These Times. Clark has been researching, writing and fighting for independent media since the late 1990s. In early 2007, she served as a research fellow at the University of London's Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media, examining online youth engagement efforts across Europe. She helped to bring Stay Free! magazine's exhibit, "Illegal Art: Freedom of Expression in the Corporate Age," to Chicago in 2003. She served on the steering committee for the Midwest office of the Independent Press Association and has worked on a variety of media reform projects. Her articles on media, politics and culture have appeared in such publications as the San Francisco Chronicle, Honolulu Weekly, The American Prospect and LiP Magazine. Clark earned an M.A. in Social Sciences (1994) and a B.A. in English (1992) from the University of Chicago.
