Writers and others working in the entertainment industry report that consolidated media have meant less creative control and a lack of ownership in the content they create and produce. Leaders of the Writers Guild of America will explore the effects of media consolidation on the industry in general and specifically its impact on creative talent. This panel will review the recent Writers Guild strike and its impact on the industry, specifically focusing on issues in new media. In addition, the panel will discuss legislative and policy solutions to counteract the consolidation of power in media and the resulting diminution of independent production.
