Organizing Locally at the Grassroots

Date: Friday, June 6th
Time: 3:30pm to 5:00pm
Room: 200 E
Track: Media Reform Activism and Movement Building
Session Type: panel

Locally based, locally focused media reform groups don’t often make it into the news or attract funding from big foundations. Yet the day-to-day organizing of such groups has been crucial to the successes of the movement. Whether by challenging broadcast licenses, turning people out to FCC hearings, or conducting educational outreach, grassroots activists have helped to put media reform issues onto the political agenda in hundreds of communities across the country. The speakers on this panel will reflect on the work of their local organizations, present case studies of effective campaigns, and share organizing strategies.
