Minnesota Model: Countering Corporate Media

In recent years, the Twin Cities have been an epicenter for media consolidation. Both daily newspapers have been bought, sold and downsized by conglomerates. The alternative weekly is part of a national chain, too. And the TV and radio airwaves are dominated by some of the nation’s biggest media companies like Clear Channel, CBS, Gannett and News Corp. Yet in the face of runaway consolidation, innovative new projects are emerging and noncommercial, ethnic and community media are thriving. Local media makers will discuss some of their latest projects and their vision for the future of media in Minnesota.
