How Independent Media Creates Change

Date: Friday, June 6th
Time: 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Room: Auditorium 3
Track: Journalism and Independent Media
Session Type: panel

While the corporate media spends its time on the election horse race and celebrity scandals, independent media have zeroed in on the issues and ideas that shape our country. This panel will tell the story of how the independent media are impacting politics, informing individuals, mobilizing communities and creating cultural shifts. A diverse cross-section of independent media leaders will share how they are breaking news, creating communities online and off, utilizing user-generated content, covering the 2008 election, and driving stories into the mainstream.
