This fast-paced, participatory session is designed to connect activists working on a variety of structural reform issues to a broad vision of democracy that features full and secure enfranchisement, expanded voter choice, free-flowing public dialogue and direct control of local, county, state and national institutions. Leading thinkers, strategists and activists will discuss connections among efforts to win media reform, protect voters in the 2008 elections, transform electoral politics through public financing, instant-runoff voting, proportional representation, universal voter registration and a national popular vote, and seek local empowerment through participatory budgeting, student unions, home rule and war referenda.
