Two decades of deregulatory media policy have resulted in a media system in which the vast majority of news and entertainment outlets are controlled by a small handful of giant media conglomerates. Six months ago, the FCC voted once again to weaken media ownership rules to let conglomerates own even more local outlets. Panelists will explore the impacts of media concentration specifically in the context of the FCC’s recent action, the congressional response, legal challenges, and how activists can keep up the pressure to prevent further consolidation.
