Media and Elections: Uncovering 2008

Date: Friday, June 6th
Time: 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Room: 200 C
Track: Journalism and Independent Media
Session Type: panel

Without the media, we can’t hold our elected leaders accountable. The way we cover elections says a lot about the health of our democracy. And right now, the prognosis doesn’t look good: Instead of covering the issues that matter, we’ve reached a new low in horse-race prognosticating, gotcha journalism and fluff. At a time when there have never been more hours, pages and gigabytes devoted to the election, why isn’t there more substance? Panelists will discuss what the media’s missing, what election coverage should look like, and what it means come November.

Sirota's talk is on KickTime

I recorded some audio of the conference and I caught the part by David Sirota. It is posted at KickTime.org

Question....When will the audio of this presentation be available for download?

There were so many lively presentations happening concurrently, and I missed this one. I would like to listen to it.

Thanks!

Katrina vanden Heuvel's NCMR appearance.

I was very much looking forward to hearing Katrina vanden Heuvel speak at the NCMR conference, and so was quite disappointed to discover that she was unable to attend. I hope that she will be able to join us at a future conference, because I found the experience to be highly energizing, hope-instilling, and very informative.

Best wishes,

Mark Jepsen
