Murdoch Closes in on Newsday and Reshapes Journal

The media baron Rupert Murdoch tightened his already imposing grip on the American news media on Tuesday, striking a tentative deal to buy Newsday and gaining his first chance to choose the top editor of the Wall Street Journal, after the resignation of the previous editor.
