Fines on Broadcasters Are Not Censorship

Federal law restricts the airing of obscene, indecent and profane material on the public airwaves. In particular, the Federal Communications Commission, pursuant to direction from Congress, bars the broadcast of indecent material between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., when children are most likely to be in the viewing and listening audience.
