Media Ownership Act of 2007 (H.R. 4835/S. 2332)

Increase text size Decrease text size   Email this page Print this page

The Media Ownership Act (H.R. 4835), introduced by Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.), would promote transparency in the adoption of new media ownership rules by the Federal Communications Commission, and to establish an independent panel to make recommendations on how to increase the representation of women and minorities in broadcast media ownership.

In the rush to gut media ownership rules, the Commission has ignored the American people, neglected the media diversity crisis, and buried evidence that consolidation harms local communities. The Media Ownership Act would hold the FCC accountable for listening to the public and ensuring that the public airwaves reflect America's diverse local communities.
