The Federal Communications Commission came to Maine Thursday to find out what the public thinks of its local broadcasters.
The meeting comes at a time when more and more local media outlets are being run by larger, out of state corporations. With a series of public hearings, FCC officials want to determine if local television and radio stations are doing their best to serve the public.
Commissioners say while big corporations have plenty of chances to address the FCC, these hearings give the public a chance to air their issues with media consolidation.
Throughout the evening FCC commissioners took public comment from consumers, industry representatives, and civic organizations on whether or not maine broadcasters are living up to their civic responsibilities.
