BizBuzz: Internet protest

NET PARTNERS: MoveOn.org and the Christian Coalition aren't often on the same side, but they're part of an alliance that will deliver nearly 17,000 petition signatures at noon today at Sen. Ken Salazar's Denver office. They're lobbying for a federal law on Net Neutrality that would give equal treatment to all traffic on the Internet. The major telecom and cable carriers would like the option to charge varying rates for varying levels of service. If the issue sounds vaguely familiar, recall in 1999 that American Online led a battle of Internet Service Providers to get "open access" to subscribers through cable Internet lines. AOL then merged with one of the biggest cable TV companies, Time Warner, and dropped the issue. Net neutrality likely won't be as easily resolved.
