The deal would clear the way for Comcast to take a controlling stake in NBCU and open the door to a new era of media consolidation that reaches across content creation and distribution, giving one company enormous power over TV and Internet content.

WASHINGTON -- According to news reports, Comcast may soon move one step closer toward taking a controlling interest in NBC Universal. Shareholders of Vivendi, which owns 20 percent of NBC Universal, are expected to meet on Wednesday to consider selling their stake in the company.

WASHINGTON -- Today, a federal court threw out the Federal Communications Commission's rule to cap cable ownership at 30%. The rule served as an important consumers protection from media consolidation and growing cable cartels, and encouraged diversity in ownership in the cable industry.

WASHINGTON -- The Federal Communications Commission announced sweeping changes to the way it collects data on female and minority broadcast ownership in the United States. Free Press research had exposed that the FCC's last data collection process in 2007 missed more than half of all the radio stations owned by women and minorities and more than two-thirds of the television stations.
