For a few moments yesterday, the crowd that had gathered at the Wellington restaurant in Columbia City held its breath while Mayor Greg Nickels tapped the keys on the laptop computer in front of him.

Then Nickels grinned, and those around him looked relieved when "Seattle Wi-Fi Hotspot" popped up on the screen.
