The idea of hacking an iPhone, hacking anything, is rather daunting to the average person.
Cyrus Farivar has an article at MacWorld.com that walks any reasonably tech-savvy person through the process of converting an iPhone locked to AT&T to an alternative GSM carrier, like T-Mobile.
