Court Gives Media Consolidation a Rebuke, Restores Rule on Ownership

There is power in numbers, if you believe the adage. But a federal appeals court said that the numbers of media outlets accumulated by some of the industry's corporate giants are simply too high. The numbers apply to outlets in different media in the same market owned by the same company. The FCC in 2007 had relaxed the rules governing such cross-ownership. But a majority ruling of the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals reinstituted the ban.
