A key senator introduced broad-based telecommunications legislation Monday that includes provisions attempting to make it easier for the phone companies to get into the video business.

Alaska Republican Sen. Ted Stevens' legislation covers much more ground than the House version of the bill, which last week won overwhelming approval by the House Commerce Committee.
