Your federal government had an Emily Litella moment last week.

Emily, you may recall, was the Saturday Night Live character known for ranting about such bizarre propositions as "violins on television."

"That was violence on television. Not violins. Violence," she'd finally be told. To which she'd reply: "Oh. Well, that's different. Never mind."
