Media and the Public Interest: Debating the Responsibility of the Press in a Democratic Society
A debate about media and politics featuring Free Press co-founder (and The Nation's Washington correspondent) John Nichols, and Nation editor and publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel against Chicago Tribune publisher David D. Hiller and Tribune Deputy Managing Editor James Warren.
They'll touch upon media-related issues such as fair coverage, obligations to inform the public, tensions between national security and free access to information, and more. The event is free and open to the public, and debaters will take questions from the audience.
Free Press is a national, nonpartisan organization working to reform the media. Free Press does not support or oppose any candidate for public office. Through education, organizing and advocacy, we promote diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media and universal access to communications.
