Philadelphia FCC Forum on Media Ownership

Proposed changes to the Federal Communication Commission's media ownership rules would make it possible for large media corporations to further consolidate.

Does consolidation benefit the public, as media companies argue? Or does it edge out diversity in favor of a corporate elite? What are the benefits and trade-offs of consolidation to consumers and citizens?

Join FCC Commissioner Michael Copps to learn about the sweeping changes to media ownership rules now pending before the FCC (other commissioners invited). Local media and civic representatives will discuss media consolidation and its affect on the local community in Philadelphia. Time allowed for public testimony.

Local speakers include:
Loraine Ballard Morrill, News & Public Affairs Director, Clear Channel
Jeff Gelles, Consumer Writer, Philadelphia Inquirer
Ed Schwartz, Institute for the Study of Civic Values
Joel Waldfogel, Wharton School of Business, author of FCC study
Other speakers to be confirmed
