Give on Giving Tuesday

A day of national giving? Right on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday? Free Press is in!

Today we’re thrilled to be one of the more than 2,000 organizations from all 50 states that are participating in Giving Tuesday.

The goal is straightforward: Inspire people to support the vast range of work being done to solve our nation’s toughest problems. At Free Press this means transforming the U.S. media system to put people first.

Why is this so important? Take Hurricane Sandy, for one. In the wake of the storm, thousands of people were left without access to mobile networks — thanks in large part to a decade of deregulation. Unlike wired phone companies, wireless providers are not held to the kinds of standards that would have forced them to prepare for a disaster like Sandy. And unlike public utility companies, these providers don't have to give state or federal regulatory agencies detailed emergency plans.

Free Press aims to change all that — and much more.

Our goal for Giving Tuesday is simple: We want to raise $10,000 in one day. Gifts will count toward a $75,000 matching grant we’ve received from a loyal donor, so every dollar you give to Free Press will go twice as far. We don’t take a cent from business, government or political parties, so we’re counting on the generosity of individual donors.
