Join the Money, Media and Elections National Data Happy Hour!

Here at Free Press we’ve been talking a lot about how TV stations are raking in billions of dollars from political ads— and are failing to fact-check those ads, or cover the shady groups behind them.

Now we want to pull back the curtain and let you see what’s going on behind the scenes at local TV stations. On Thurs., Oct. 25, Free Press and the Sunlight Foundation are holding a Money, Media and Elections National Data Happy Hour — and you’re invited!

Help us shine a spotlight on the impact political ads are having on this year’s election. With just two weeks left until Election Day, it is crunch time. We’ve collected thousands of documents from local TV stations and the Federal Communications Commission’s own database. Now we need to get all this data into a searchable, sortable format so that researchers, journalists and everyday Americans can make sense of it.

You are welcome to join us in one of three locations: Sunlight’s offices in Washington, D.C., or Boston, or Free Press’ office in Western Massachusetts. We know that no one can live on data alone, so we’ll have food and drinks from 5–8 p.m. in our offices.

Can’t make it in person? Feel free to host your own data happy hour and join the livestream from your home, dorm or newsroom. We’ll have a live chat and more so you can be part of the action.

Together we’ll use our new Political Ad Sleuth database to reveal who’s buying ads, how much they’re paying and where they’re spending all that dough. RSVP on Facebook here:
